SQF Overview

Standard course duration: 8 hours

This course provides participants with an understanding of the SQF Food Safety Standard principles, activities, and terminology necessary for the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of an effective food safety management system.

Participants will be introduced to:

  • The history of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and SQF
  • Certification and certification levels
  • The written standard, its elements and required actions:
    • Management commitment
    • Document control and records
    • Specification and product development
    • Attaining food safety
    • SQF system verification
    • Product identification, trace, withdrawal, and recall
    • Site security
    • Identity-preserved foods
    • Training

Participants will learn about the role and implementation of:

  • Personnel practices and training
  • Equipment calibration
  • Pest and vermin control
  • Cleaning and sanitation
  • Contaminant control
  • Waste management and disposal
  • Recall procedures
  • Internal audits

Upon completion of this course participants will understand what the SQF code is and why it is important, understand the elements of the SQF Code and they will be able to participate and contribute to an SQF implementation program.
